Full roof replacements and repairs on houses — architectural shingle, three-tab and slate. We tear the old system off rather than laying over it, check and repair the decking underneath, and detail the underlayment, flashing and valleys properly before the new roof goes on. Mid-Atlantic winters put roofs through repeated freeze-thaw and summer storms drive rain sideways under anything badly lapped, so the details that never show are the ones that decide how long the roof lasts.

Flat and low-slope commercial roofs — TPO and EPDM single-ply membrane, and torch-down modified bitumen. Flat roofs fail differently from pitched ones: water sits instead of running off, so seams, terminations and drainage do all the work. We weld and lap seams properly, flash every curb, drain and penetration, and make sure the water actually has somewhere to go. This is the half of the trade most residential roofers subcontract out — we do it ourselves, with the same crew.

Metal roofing and panel systems for houses, barns, shops and commercial buildings. Metal lives or dies on its details: panels have to be free to expand and contract with temperature, fasteners and clips have to suit the system, and every trim, ridge and wall termination has to shed water rather than trap it. Done right it is the longest-lasting roof on this list and it sheds snow and rain better than anything else we install.

Gutter and downspout installation, replacement and repair. A roof is only half the system — the other half is getting the water away from the building. Undersized, badly pitched or overflowing gutters push water behind the fascia, down the siding and into the foundation, and the damage usually shows up somewhere that looks nothing like a gutter problem. We size and pitch them for the roof area they actually drain, hang them properly, and run the downspouts far enough out to matter.
